First public transportation in Moscow appeared in 1847. The "brake" was the name of the first 10 seat wagonette which was driven by horsepower. 1847 saw the realization of the first project of the Russian horse-driven railways. By the end of the 20th century the length of such railways was about 90 km and this means of transportation fully substituted the brake. In 1899he first passengers were taken aboard a tram which was driven by electricity.
In 1933 the first trolleybuses were included into the system of public transportation.
Today the length of bus routes is 5032km. The trolleybus route network is about 920 km, and tram network is - 415 km. According to specialists’ estima-tions the number of people which use public transpor-tation is more than 6300 mln people. Every day more than 5200 buses, 1600 trolleybuses and 900 trams operate in the city.
