RAILROAD STATIONS IN MOSCOW (9 listings) File Created: 29-Sep-04
Long Distance. Moscow has nine main train terminals serving various parts of Russia, Europe and the CIS. All stations have kiosks, cafes, restaurants (many are being converted to fast food restaurants), phones, waiting rooms, pay toilets, pharmacies and hair salons. Most stations have postal services. Advance booking is available for all tickets and is recommended. In some stations, entrance to the interior station and wait-ing rooms (but not to the platforms) requires a ticket or payment. Most stations have both local militia and internal guards, and booking offices for long distance and suburban trains. Belorussia, Kiev and Kazan stations have special security agents!

Suburban Commuter Trains. Commuter trains serve all the suburbs of Moscow. Many commuter stations and platforms in Moscow are shown on our maps of Moscow and the region.

Belorus Station  
Originally built in 1870 and rebuilt in 1909 by architect Strukov in modern style. Witnessed many historic events of the WWII: in 1941 Russian Army soldiers were leaving from here to partake in battles against Hitler, those who survived returned to Belorusskiy Station with victory in 1945. Long-distance trains to West and South-West: Berlin, Warsaw, Vilnius, Vyunsdorf, Kaunas, Cologne, MInsk, Paris, Praque, Olkush, Brest, Gomel, Grodno, Kaliningrad, Mogilev, Polotsk, Smolensk, Unecha. Commuter trains to Borodino, Golitsyno, Dorokhovo, Zvenigorod, Kubinka, Mozhaysk, Odintsovo, Usovo.

Kazan Station  
Built in 1913-1940 by design of Shchusev in early Russian style with Moscow baroque details. Located in Northeast Moscow, about 4 km from the Kremlin in the 3-station square. Built in 1914-1917 by the design of Rorberg in neo classical style, metal arches above railway tracks designed by Shukhov. The oldest railroad station in Moscow; built in 1851 by the design of Ton in Empire style, like its twin-station in St. Petersburg. Long-distance trains to North-West of Russia and abroad: St. Petersburg, Tallin, Helsinki, Borovichi, Vyborg, Murmansk, Nikel, Novgorod, Ostashkov, Petrozavodsk, Pskov. Built in 1900 in modern style, reconstructed in 1980; known for its pavilion-museum, displaying the "mourning" train on which the body of Lenin was transported from Gorky to Moscow after his death.
