Usual Hours of work. Organizations and institutes usually open between 9 and 10 , take 1 hour off for lunch between 13 and 14 and end the work day about 18. Most are closed Sa & Su.
Most shops work Mo-Sa, open around 10. Some close at 18, many stay open to 20 or 21. Food stores tend to be open from 8 to 20.

Lunch break. Most state shops and many organizations close for one hour at midday for a lunch break. You might see a sign (Pereryv na obed) on the door. Most new shops, Univermag, Universam and Western owned shops work with no lunch break. Food stores and bakeries usually break from 13-14, other stores from 14-15. "Sanitary day". Many markets, museums, public institutions, and a few shops close one day per month in addition to their regular closing for "cleaning day" (sanitarnyy den). See MUSEUMS and MARKETS (Farmer's Markets, Kolkhoz Markets).
