Russian dentistry has improved greatly in the past few years as Russian dentists have finally gained access to Western materials, techniques, and equipment. True Western style dentistry is now possible to obtain and in some cases is performed by Western dentists or Russian dentists with extended training abroad. Be prepared however, to pay a hefty price for it. In some cases the prices are double those charged in the United States.
For dental emergencies, look for the "clock" which indicates 24 hour services.
After the crisis however the demand for dental services fell from 180 million dollars to $80-100 million and about 60 out of 510 clinics closed. Private dental clinics are divided to 3 price categories: Elite clinics (less than 1%) charge $130 for simple filling, $900 for crown. Middle-priced clinics (65%) charge $40 for filling, $100-250 for crown. Inexpensive clinics (35%) charge $14 for filling and $90 for crown. The demand for dental care at the best clinics did not decline after the crisis, thus prices were not reduced. The demand for inexpensive clinics actually increased since many clients could not afford anything else.
